Wednesday is here, and new comics are within reach. If you are like me, you may still have a stack of comics that haven’t been read from last week (or last month), but here is a list of new series starting this week, which I will be picking up at my local comic shop.
Like many readers I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. I have chosen to highlight five promising new titles to consider picking up this week, plus a few extras for those who are refusing to buy a new air conditioner, even though its is sweltering hot.
Boom Studios – James Tynion IV, Rian Sygh, Walter Baiamonte
James Tynion IV (Batman Eternal, The Woods) teams up with artist Rian Sygh (Munchkin, Stolen Forest) for an incredible yet earnest story about finding a place to fit in when you’re kinda an outcast.
When Jory transfers to the private, all-boys school St. Genesius’s, he figures joining the stage crew would involve a lot of just fetching props and getting splinters. To his pleasant surprise, he discovers there’s a door backstage that leads to different worlds, and all of the stagehands know about it!
All the world’s a stage…but what happens behind the curtain is pure magic!
Dark Horse Comics – Jeff Lemire, Dean Ormston
The Golden Age heroes of Spiral City have been “erased” from existence! Banished years ago to a timeless farming community, the team are torn between accepting their fate and finding a way home! Chapter 2 focuses on child hero Golden Gail, whose unaging body most deeply feels the tragedy of their new lives.
Image Comics – Colin Lorimer, Joana Lafuente, Jim Campbell
It all began with witnessing her dying father’s soul being ripped from his body by demonic soul-stealers known as the Sluagh. Now with the ability to step between two worlds-the otherworld and ours-and with an army of changelings harvesting souls, it would seem the nightmare has only just begun for Orla Roche.
Image Comics – Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, Matt Wilson, Clayton Clowes, Olly Moss
END OF STORY ARC
“RISING ACTION,” Conclusion
A little extreme violence never hurt anyone.
Aftershock Comics – Marguerite Bennett, Ariela Kristantina, Bryan Valenza, A Larger World
In the finale of our first arc, Lady, Mariah and their allies race through the lair of the venomous Hag who holds her victims in a deadly thrall! Hearts rip, heads roll, and the lovers pay the final price for their freedom…
Extra Pulls: Batman #5, Heartthrob #5, Mighty Thor #10, Decender #14 Tales From The Darkside #3
