Wednesday is here again, which means a new week for new comics (WASTED SPACE, HER INFERNAL DESCENT & SURVIVAL FETISH). If you are like me, you may still have a stack of comics that haven’t been read from last week, but how can anyone fault us for reading. Here is a list of books I will be picking up at my local comic shop.
Like many readers I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult when there are so many quality books being published each week. So here are 5 titles to consider picking up this week.
BLACK HAMMER :AGE OF DOOM #1 – $3.99
The Eisner Award-winning superhero saga returns! Picking up immediately where we left off-Lucy Weber has become the new Black Hammer and right as she’s about to reveal to our heroes how they got stuck on the farm and can escape she vanishes. Now our new Black Hammer finds herself trapped in a gritty world filled with punk rock detectives, emo gods, anthropomorphic humans, absurdist heroes, and many more weirdoes, in a mad world in which there is no escape!
HER INFERNAL DESCENT #1 – $3.99
A tale of loss told in five parts. Any good mom would march through the inferno of HELL to get her family back. Unable to cope with the burden of grief, a middle-aged mom descends the nine circles of hell to retrieve her forsaken family. Guided by the ghosts of William Blake and Agatha Christie, this no-nonsense mother journeys deep into a bizarre underworld filled with celebrity sinners, surreal landscapes, and absurd tasks. Her Infernal Descent is a retelling of Dante’s Inferno that updates the themes for a modern audience. From the writers of the break-out hit The Dregs, and the artist of Roche Limit, this is HELL like you’ve never seen before.
QUANTUM & WOODY #5 – $3.99
Valiant Entertainment – Daniel Kibblesmith @kibblesmith, Kano, Michael Walsh @Mister_Walsh
Three’s company! After three decades and 10,000 miles, the moment of truth has finally arrived: Our heroes are about to come face-to-face with Woody’s long-lost father! In Australia! Will Woody abandon his adoptive brother and trusted partner-in-crime-fighting to embrace a hard-partying scoundrel with no sense of decency? Or…is the world’s worst superhero team about to become a terrible trio? Plus: Back in DC, the super-science crime cabal is about to get an energizing new addition! It’s going to be a real “Martha” moment when Daniel Kibblesmith (The Late Show with Stephen Colbert) and dazzling artist extraordinaire Kano (Immortal Iron Fist) tear one family apart, only to bring another one together as “KISS KISS, KLANG KLANG” heads to a death-defying finish!
SURVIVAL FETISH #1 – $3.99
Downtown Honolulu is a sniper alley, and Saheer runs it better than anyone. He’s a local celebrity for transporting medicine and information across a no-man’s land occupied by militias and street gangs. But what people say about you is never the full story, and when the cheers die out Saheer is left with just his anxieties… and his secrets. The first of a five-issue series that keeps its foot pressed on your adrenal gland. From Patrick Kindlon (We Can Never Go Home, There’s Nothing There, S.H.I.E.L.D.: Quake) and illustrator Antonio Fuso (James Bond), Survival Fetish is a pulse-pounding thrill-ride that mixes political intrigue with deep characters and high octane action.
WASTED SPACE #1 – $3.99
Billy Bane is a prophet who got it all wrong, and the galaxy has been burning ever since. All he wants is to waste away in the darkest corner of space with his best pal Dust, a supercharged Fuq bot. But when a new prophet comes calling, Billy is summoned to save the galaxy he’s at least partially responsible for destroying. Too bad he couldn’t care less. Michael Moreci and Hayden Sherman have thrown Philip K. Dick in a blender with Preacher. Take a sip and get wasted.
Extra Pulls: Batman #45, Death Bed #3, Mister Miracle #8, Amazing Spider-Man #799, Mata Hari #3
