#8. Brie Larson Cast as Captain Marvel

— Brie Larson (@brielarson) July 24, 2016
It was revealed that Brie Larson (Room, Kong: Skull Island) has been cast as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel as Marvel’s latest addition to their cinematic universe. Not only will she have her own film, which is due for release March 8, 2019, but we can expect to see Brie Larson in the role when she cameos in Avengers: Infinity War, which hits theaters first on May 4, 2018.
In the comics, Danvers gets her superpowers after an accident involving Kree technology (which ties in with the Guardians of The Galaxy franchise and Avengers flicks). Fans have long been waiting for a female-led superhero Marvel movie and they will have to wait a little longer for Captain Marvel, but having Larson in the role is a strong and legit way to finally kick this off. She’s a superb choice.
#7. Kong: Skull Island Trailer Crushes Comic Con “This Planet Doesn’t Belong to Us”
From Legendary Pictures, Warner Bros and director Jordan Vogt-Roberts comes Kong: Skull Island. Starring Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John Goodman, Jing Tian, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, John Ortiz, Shea Whigham and Toby Kebbell, the film is scheduled for release March 10, 2017.
#6. Hot Toys Reveals Joker Wearing a Twisted Batsuit in New Suicide Squad Line
Suicide Squad is directed by David Ayer ( Fury) and stars Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Common. The film is about a secret government agency that recruits imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency. It will be released theatrically August 5th, 2016.
Hot Toys has revealed their line of upcoming Suicide Squad figures and in the process probably dropped a big spoiler in regards to The Joker and Batman… Check it out below – as you can see it is indeed Jared Leto’s Joker donning Ben Affleck’s Batman suit – or a very similar reproduction of it. You know – it’s also completely messed up to make it the Joker’s own variation complete with purple and green colors. Hot Toys isn’t known to make their own figure variations, so you can likely expect this version of The Joker wearing a Batsuit to pop up in the film next month.
#5. Luke Cage, Iron Fist & Defenders Teaser Trailers
From Marvel Studios and showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker comes the new Netflix original series Luke Cage. The show stars Mike Colter in the title role with supporting cast-mates Mahershala Ali, Theo Rossi, Alfre Woodard, Simone Missick, Frank Whaley and Frankie Faison. It is set to premiere September 30th, 2016.
From Netflix, Marvel Studios and showrunner Scott Buck (Dexter, Rome), comes Iron Fist. Finn Jones will star as the title hero in the upcoming original series which debuts in 2017 and also stars Tom Pelphrey, David Wenham, Jessica Henwick and Jessica Stroup.
From Netflix and Marvel Studios, comes the highly anticipated series ‘The Defenders’ which will assemble Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist into one show. From showrunners Douglas Petrie (Marvel’s Daredevil) and Marco Ramirez (Marvel’s Daredevil) the series will debut in 2017.
#4. The Walking Dead Season 7 Trailer Reveals Tiger Shiva, King Ezekiel & Negan’s Gore-Soaked Lucille
The Walking Dead is an AMC television adaptation from showrunner Scott Gimple pulled from the pages of the hit Image comic series by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard. The series stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira, Steven Yeun, Khary Paton, Lauren Cohan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chandler Riggs and Melissa McBride. Season seven is set for October 23, 2016.
#3. Justice League Trailer Explodes all Over San Diego Comic Con
From director Zack Snyder (Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Watchmen) comes the highly anticipated Justice League film which will assemble DC Comics’ greatest heroes. Starring Henry Cavill (Superman), Ben Affleck (Batman), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Gal Gadot (Wonderwoman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Ezra Miller (The Flash), Amber Heard (Queen Mera), Willem Dafoe (Vulko) and JK Simmons (Commissioner Gordon), the film is scheduled for theatrical release November 10, 2017.
#2. Guardians of The Galaxy Casts Jimmy Urine from Mindless Self Indulgence & Reveals Starlord’s Father
From Marvel Studios and director James Gunn, comes the highly anticipated Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2. Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell. the movie is due for release May 5, 2017.
Director James Gunn unleashed a massive amount of story details and more for his upcoming Guardians of The Galaxy sequel. Head to his Facebook Page for the full rundown. Unfortunately for us at home – the footage that was shown to the crowd will not be released online due to some of the CGI not being finished. That’s OK considering the incredible amount of details revealed from the movie. Some of my favorite highlights include the following:
The Ravagers. This is a group of villains in the upcoming flick and two of them are played by people I love – Chris Sullivan (The Knick) as Taserface and Jimmy Urine as another Ravager called Half-Nut. Urine is the lead singer of Mindless Self Indulgence. Now, I know Jimmy is a friend of Gunn’s, but it’s still fucking amazing to me that he managed to cast the enigmatic frontman as a Marvel Comics villain in a major studio film. You have no idea how cool this truly is unless you’re a fan of MSI (they are incredible BTW).
Peter Quill, aka Starlord – is the son to the living planet Ego…. Yes, his father is a planet – named Ego – who is a living person. Ego will indeed be played by Kurt Russell as well… Now, Gunn admits that this is a bizarre situation but he said all will be revealed in the movie when it comes out… They did show the costume that Russell will be wearing in the film, so there will be a human-sized (maybe?) or at least human shaped version of Ego in the movie which is odd but not as odd as having Russell do voiceover for a massive purple planet head which somehow impregnated Quill’s mom.
Ego in the Comic:
Ego’s mansuit in the movie:
Yondu has the full on mohawk. Just like his character in the comics, Michael Rooker showed up to SDCC2016 with the complete fin on his head – meaning Yondu will look even more closely like his source material counterpart. Bad-ass.
#1. The Wonder Woman Comic Con Trailer is Here & It Looks Astounding
From Warner Bros and director Patty Jenkins comes the big screen adaptation of DC Comics’ Wonder Woman. Starring Gal Gadot in the title role alongside Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis and Ewen Bremner, the film is scheduled for release June 2, 2017.
