From EuropaCorp and writer/director Luc Besson, comes the adaptation of the Sci-Fi European Graphic Novel series – Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Starring Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke and John Goodman, the film is scheduled for theatrical release July 21, 2017.
Special operatives Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) maintain order throughout the universe for the government of the human territories. Under orders from their commander (Clive Owen), the duo embark on a mission to Alpha, an intergalactic city where diverse species share their technology and resources for the betterment of all. The ever-expanding metropolis is also home to sinister forces that jeopardize the future of mankind.
So the trailer for Valerian looks stunning – and I’m talking remarkably stunning on a level that rivals every single Wachowski siblings flick, I’m talking Avatar and I’m talking the new Star Wars flicks too. I did NOT expect to see what I just witnessed here in Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets preview.
However, much like The Fifth Element – that film wasn’t a huge hit until later in life on video – because it was so damn weird for theatrical audiences. Being that Valerian has a Summer release date, I think there is hope for this one because… I mean – did you watch the trailer yet? Crazy cool… I’m officially pumped.
