From Universal Pictures and director James DeMonaco comes The Purge 3. The film will once again star Frank Grillo (Captain America: Civil War) and is scheduled to hit theaters July 1, 2016.
Frank Grillo’s leading performance in the second Purge film, which focused more on action as opposed to the claustrophobic horror setting of the first film, was a huge factor in that movie’s incredible success. The Purge 2 raked in an astounding $110 million on a budget of only $9 million. There were some hold-ups with Grillo’s series ‘The Kingdown’ clashing with the scheduled filming of The Purge 3, but it looks like they’ve sorted it out.
Grillo was essentially the Punisher in The Purge 2 and in my opinion the main factor in why that film was as well received as it wound up being. I’m interested in the third flick strictly because of Grillo — yes he happens to truly be that interesting as an action leading man.
The Purge 3 begins filming in September and you can see Grillo reprising his role as the villainous Crossbones in Marvel’s highly anticipated Captain America: Civil War next year as well.
