The LEGO Movie was arguably one of the biggest surprises of 2014, but what wasn’t a surprise after massive success at the box office is a sequel getting the green light to go into production from Warner Bros. Pictures and Warner Animation Group. It was always going to be a challenge to live up to the success of the original, but the direction from Mike Mitchell, and pens of writers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have crafted a solid sequel in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, which retains the spirit, tone and sense of humor from the original, and remains entertaining despite an air of familiarity. I’ve never watched the Teen Titans Go, so Teen Titans Go! To the Movies was the first my first experience of them. Honestly, I don’t quite get it,l but I’m clearly not the demographic. Even so, it was easy to sit through, full comprehension wasn’t necessary. Teen Titans Go! To the Movies was fast paced, there was music throughout and the action cut fast enough to satisfy even my short attention span. Read more

This week I saw The Lego Batman Movie. Lego Batman was my favorite part of the Lego Movie and he’s my favorite Batman too. He’s so funny! I was a little worried about taking the comedic relief of an already funny movie and giving it a full feature film. Often that doesn’t turn out – just look at ‘Minions’. But The Lego Batman Movie turned out pretty good.

The last time we saw the Caped Crusader on the big screen, he was in the hotly-debated Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (Hey, I liked it, so sue me). In a dour mood and off on a killing spree, some cried that it wasn’t the Batman they grew up with while others said it fit more closely with his comic book iteration. Either way, Batman v. Superman found the Dark Knight in a tight spot and in the middle of countless debates/arguments between critics and fans of comic book characters that almost sent film Twitter into flames. Luckily, Batman is back to provide some fun in the form of Legos. The Lego Batman Movie is a spin-off from the hugely successful The Lego Movie, which featured an “all-too-serious-but-trying-to-look-cool” Batman voiced by the wonderful Will Arnett (Arrested Development). Embracing the masked vigilante’s nostalgia from his past iterations along with the Lego universe’s nonsensical humor, The Lego Batman Movie is a hysterical, absolute blast from start to finish.
