Russell Crowe Welcomes Audiences Back With B-Level Thriller ‘Unhinged’ (Review)

Russell Crowe Welcomes Audiences Back With B-Level Thriller ‘Unhinged’ (Review)

With this movie review being published, we would like to inform our readers that for the foreseeable future, we will publish movie reviews when it’s most safe and convenient for our staff members to view new releases.

Who better to welcome audiences back to the theaters than Russell Crowe? Well, I’m sure that question could spur so many different answers. But hey, it’s a new world where, for now, everything is day-to-day. For example, weeks ago, we had Tenet and Mulan being the first movies to welcome us back to the theater. But with things being so uncertain, that changed. Tenet is now opening Labor Day weekend and Mulan is skipping theaters (in the US) and hitting premium video on demand. So, with the dominoes falling back into different places, Solstice Studios’ Unhinged is the first new release for viewers in a majority of theaters reopening in the US today. Thankfully, Unhinged is not some leftover movie in the bin that gets an opportunity to be the “first” major release in theaters since March. Unhinged is exactly what you pay for: it’s a B-level thriller that lets a two-time Academy Award-winner go nuts in the lead role.

The Mummy: I loved 75% of it But The Best Milkshake in The World is Still No Good if 25% of it is Shit (Review)

The Mummy: I loved 75% of it But The Best Milkshake in The World is Still No Good if 25% of it is Shit (Review)

Oh The Mummy.  When Brendan Fraser did it in 1999, it was a wonderfully camp, kinda horror kinda action thing.  This The Mummy is something else.  I was expecting to hate the new The Mummy.  Flashy high budget remakes never work out well unless they’re musicals with Emma Watson.   But I’m here to tell you I actually fully flat-out loved about 75% of it.  It was beautiful, the design was lovely, it was beautifully shot, the stunts were amazing and I loved the CGI, it seemed to work well.  Of course, it wasn’t enough – the best milkshake in the world is still no good if 25% of it is shit.    Read more

The Mummy: Paging Brendan Fraser (Review)

The Mummy: Paging Brendan Fraser (Review)

In 2014, Universal Pictures attempted to launch their Dark Universe (the name of their Universal Monsters cinematic universe) with Dracula Untold. Unfortunately, the movie received mixed reviews and was underwhelming at the box office. Fast forward three years and Universal is once again trying to launch the Dark Universe with The Mummy. But unlike Dracula Untold, which had its moments, The Mummy, on the other hand, takes poorly setting up a cinematic universe to a whole new level. Bad in almost every facet, it makes you wonder if Universal should just scrap this Dark Universe altogether and save other A-list actors (Javier Bardem and Johnny Depp) from wasting their time with it. By the time the credits roll for The Mummy, you’ll be yearning for another Brendan Fraser-starring Mummy movie instead of where this Dark Universe goes next. Tonally all over the place mixed together with a humdrum story and exhaustive CGI, The Mummy is a conglomerate mess from start to finish.
