I wasn’t that crazy about seeing Arrival. There hadn’t been much hype, I wasn’t already aware of it and the trailer made it look like it was borrowing a plotline from the first season of Enterprise where the Federation hadn’t developed the Universal Translator yet, so they weren’t sure if the aliens were going to kill the Enterprise or not. And to be fair that’s a large part of it – how much of Earth’s stress in this movie would have been reduced by the invention of a Universal Translator? I’m not going to tell you; after seeing Arrival through, I can say that it’s not the point of the film. Read more
Before you see how I rated this film, I just want to say a few things. Captain America: Civil War was unbelievably well made. It was beautiful to look at, well acted, funny and likeable. It really did feel epic. And I did like it – all 147 minutes of it. I cannot stress this enough: I did not hate this film. But, like its DC counterpart, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, this is a film that absolutely should have been two or three movies instead of one. The significant difference between Dawn of Justice and Civil War is that Civil War was masterfully done. Read more
