It’s time to look back through the movies of 2016 and, awards-show style, pick the most remarkable films in a variety of categories. A couple rules: only films I’ve reviewed are qualified and only one film can be nominated for each category, for… reasons. After the emotional meat grinder of the very excellent “The Witch” last week, I was happy to sit down and not worry about anything. Since it’s impossible to avoid any hype at all, by the time I sat down for this one I’d heard that Gods of Egypt was getting terrible reviews. Now while it did have its faults, Gods of Egypt belongs with ‘Avatar’ and ‘Jupiter Ascending’; it’s one of those movies that are so beautiful the audience doesn’t worry about acting, dialogue or consistency. It’s 2016 and that means an entire new year of movies. I had such a hoot writing about all the movies of 2015 (especially picking my ‘winners’) that I’m excited to do it again. I have a feeling this year is going to be good. Read more
From Lionsgate and director Alex Proyas (The Crow), comes Gods of Egypt. The film stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Gerard Butler, Chadwick Boseman, Elodie Yung, Courtney Eaton and Geoffrey Rush. It hits theaters February 26, 2016.
