SOUTH PARK: THE COMPLETE TWENTY-SECOND SEASON is available to own NOW on Blu-ray and DVD. Each two-disc set also includes deleted scenes and mini-commentaries on all episodes by “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. The Blu-ray set additionally includes #SocialCommentary on all episodes. Here is my review:
Join Cartman, Kenny, Stan, and Kyle as they have a memorable Halloween, get super cereal with Al Gore, and try to win the top prize in the town’s bike parade in the enduringly popular series’ incredible 22nd season.
It was right around the moment when Santa Claus zooms into South Park to potentially save Christmas when he asks the townspeople where his old friend Mr. Hankey was, only to found out that he had been banished forever. “Did he f*** a kid or something?” asks Santa. “No, he made some offensive tweets,” replies the people. To which Santa proclaims that everyone is in fact a C*** before leaving South Park to deal with their own shit. Yes – South Park tackled the Roseanne controversy by having an actual piece of shit, tweet racist shit, only to be shunned from the town, for acting like a piece of shit… South Park continues to be the most savage and brilliant comedic series on TV that tackles these types of relevant issues in clever and original ways. They managed to do a two-episode blockbuster which features the hideous MANBEARPIG wreaking havoc upon the town, only for the kids to track down Al Gore, who warned them all about this very issue YEARS AGO but nobody believed him… So instead of Global Warming – get it? – we see a vicious mutant tearing people to shreds and at one point, he even clashes with SATAN.
South Park goes after school shootings and how numb society is to the constant news of more dead kids. Don’t all these dead kids know that Red Dead Redemption II is out? How dare they die when we could be robbing trains and taking trips to Blackwater dammit. That unsettling narrative carries throughout these 10 glorious episodes, with gunfire just casually ringing out from South Park Elementary to the point where people stop addressing the situation entirely. When Stan’s mom freaks out about the violence, we instead cater to those who feel she’s just having one intense period and needs to chill out. If I weren’t laughing so much I’d be depressed too because Trey Parker and Matt Stone make me feel incredibly sad for the human race.
One of my favorite storylines this season features Randy moving his family to a farm so he can grow Marijuana under his new business Tegridy Farms. Eventually when people start losing their shit over an Amazon strike, it turns out that weed is South Park’s only savior in dealing with not getting their online packages delivered on time. Jeff Bezos even visits with his freakishly large head and he communicates via telepathy as an added bonus. If that wasn’t funny enough, he begins threatening people with removing their Amazon PRIME access much to their horror. South Park season 22 was hysterical and I know there’s been some teases that the series is winding down (notice the #cancelsouthpark lines that pop up in credits this season), but I do hope that the show continues because it’s such a clever and entertaining roast of our pathetic modern society. No one is safe – we’ll all feel like pieces of shit after watching South Park season 22 and that’s actually a great thing.
