From Lionsgate and director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac), comes Power Rangers. The new big screen reboot of the popular kids show was penned by Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class) and stars Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger), RJ Cyler (Blue Ranger), Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger), Ludi Lin (Black Ranger), Becky G (Yellow Ranger), Bryan Cranston, Bill Hader and Elizabeth Banks. Power Rangers hits theatres March 24, 2017.
A group of ordinary high school kids find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world.
After an unfair tease in the first trailer last summer, it looks like Lionsgate have went all out in the second preview for their upcoming Power Rangers reboot. I love the jokes that they constantly throw at themselves and the plot, because let’s face it – the concept is ridiculous. The special effects could use some work before the official release, but I do like the look of the suits in action and the live-action puddies are fierce – resembling vicious rock golems as opposed to spandex suited freaks that sound like mumbling whackos. Some of the darker tone and updates were necessary, but I’m still disappointed with the treatment of Goldar in what is obviously the final battle of the movie when the Rangers summon their Zords and go to war Godzilla style.
