From director Michael Winterbottom comes Russ & Roger: the true story of Roger Ebert (Josh Gad) and director Russ Meyer (Will Ferrell), which chronicles the tale of how the film critic and filmmaker made the infamous cult classic feature Beyond The Valley of The Dolls.
Russ & Roger is scripted by Emmy Award winner Christopher Cluess (The Simpsons) and will be produced through STX Entertainment. Gad has been rumoured and attached to the role of Ebert as early as last winter but the deal took months to lock in. Now it is official.
Russ & Roger is a debaucherous comedy centering on two outsiders who defied the Hollywood establishment and made one of the first X-rated films ever released by a major movie studio, having the party of a lifetime in the process.
Gad is a no brainer for this role and I’m happy that the announcement is official. Having him team up with Ferrell seems like a recipe for success as long as they keep this movie faithful to the true story and don’t go too zany with it…
