TOP 5 COMICS TO BUY – 11/18/15: RAT QUEENS, BLOODSHOT & I HATE FAIRYLAND

Share

Wednesday approaches, and new comics are almost within our reach. So you may be like me and still have a stack of comics that haven’t been read from last week, but here is a list of new titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week, and a couple honorary mentions for those that have some extra cash you saved by avoiding going to the dentist for one more week.

bloodshot8Bloodshot Reborn #8 – $3.99

Jeff Lemire, Butch Guice, Mico Suayan

Agents Festival and Hoyt finally discover the truth about the secret organization that is responsible for creating Bloodshot, but what will they do with the information now that they have it. Bloodshot only needs to track down one final person infected with the nanites before there are any more victims. With Bloodshot and this mystery person sharing equal amounts of the nanites, the final battle will be evenly matched, and if Ray Garrison can come out victorious, will he be transformed back to Bloodshot, the killing machine of the past.

ihatefairyland2I Hate Fairyland #2 – $3.50

Skottie Young

Usually this is where I write a little bit about what to expect in this issue, and why it is worth the money to buy this book. This book should be on your list because it is so incredibly wacky and unpredictable. It’s the incredible juxtaposition of this cute little drawn characters and scenery, doing these absolutely horrific, brutal things that makes this book a winner. Plus the added fact that this is all Skottie Young, you can tell how much of his heart and soul gets poured into this book.

ratqueens13Rat Queens #13 – $3.99

Kurtis J. Wiebe, Tess Fowler, Tamra Bonvillain, Ed Brisson, Stjepan Sejic

It’s lucky number thirteen for Rat Queens. Well maybe “lucky” isn’t the best choice of words as Hannah and the rest of the gang return to Mage University to discover where things went wrong. There is no doubt about the amount of hard work this creative team puts into every one of the Rat Queens issues. Though I find the story has slowed down, the quality of the work Wiebe, Fowler and Bonvillain are producing together is fantastic.

secretwarstooSecret Wars Too #1 – $4.99

Jonathan Hickman, Al Ewing, Kate Leth, Kyle Starks, Rob Guillory, Ryan Browne, Eric Powell, Brian Churilla, Jacopo Camagni, Brittney L. Williams, Ramon Villalobos, Tamra Bonvillain, Jesus Aburtov, Megan M. Wilson, Travis Lanham, Chip Zdarsky

With a creative team like this, how can you go wrong? A who’s who of the comic world comes together to poke some fun at the ongoing (and previous) Secret Wars. There is something for everyone in this book, from Chip Zdarsky’s cover art, to vetrans like Hickman, Guillory, Browne and Powell, to young guns Leth and Williams. I imagine this book to be like one of those music compilation infomercials from the 90’s, where the names are all scrolling by, and you are thinking to yourself “this is just too good to be true”.

spiderwoman1Spider-Woman #1 – $3.99

Dennis Hopeless, Javier Rodriguez, Alvaro Lopez, Travis Lanham

The concept of having a pregnant superhero is something that I have not come across, which is one of the reasons why I am intrigued about this book. The previous volume of this book, also written by Dennis Hopeless an only began a year ago, never really caught my eye, but was highly recommended by many people. I look forward to seeing how this creative team addresses some of the ideas around being a future mother, but also weaving in how other Marvel characters interact with Spider-woman.

Extra pulls: Batman & Robin Eternal #7, The Beauty #4, Huck #1, Star Wars #12, We(l)come Back #3

I read comics. I write about comics. You read about me writing about comics. If you have comics you want me to read, write me, and I will read it. I might even write about it.
