Wednesday is here, and new comics are within reach. If you are like me, you may still have a stack of comics that haven’t been read from last week (or last month), but here is a list of new series starting this week, which I will be picking up at my local comic shop.
Like many readers I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. I have chosen to highlight five promising new titles to consider picking up this week.
Dark Horse Comics – Kate Leth, Megan Levens, Marissa Louise, Ming Doyle
Three young witches are robbed of their magical items, and they’ll have to hit the road to track down the mysterious thief before he does any damage to-or with-their possessions.
Dark Horse Comics – Jeff Lemire, Dean Ormston, Dave Stewart
In the forties, Abraham Slam faced such menaces as the psychedelic Florist and the eldritch Cthu-Lou without breaking a sweat. But keeping the heroes of Black Hammer Farm from each other’s throats when his girlfriend comes to dinner proves far more perilous! Meanwhile, the Black Hammer’s daughter uncovers new clues to the exiled heroes’ disappearance!
DC Comics – Gerard Way, Jonathan Rivera, Michael Avon Oeming
Cave Carson has done it all: survived countless adventures below the Earth’s surface, met the love of his life, and gotten a cybernetic eye…somehow. After he and his wife, Eileen, sent their only daughter Chloe off to college, Cave was ready to become just another mundane member of the surface world. That is, until Eileen got sick. Newly widowed, Cave tries to piece his life back together when a knock on the door of his secret underground lab pulls him back into a past that he and Eileen thought they had left buried deep within the Earth.
Adding to his troubles, Cave must determine if his recent hallucinations and visions are the work of his mind or his mysterious cybernetic eye. (Spoiler: It’s the eye.)
Boom! Studios – James Tynion IV, Rian Sygh, Veronica Fish
It’s Tech Rehearsal for Les Terribles and Beckett is determined to nail every cue, but Sasha’s mistake brings new drama to the stage!
Marvel Comics – Ryan North, Erica Henderson, Rico Renzi
SOMEONE is taking over the continental United States, but Squirrel Girl is stuck in boring ol’ Canada! UH-OH. Canada’s not actually that boring, though: Did you know we have the world’s longest covered bridge, in Hartland, New Brunswick? It’s true! I’ve seen it! It’s pretty long, I GUESS. Anyway enough about Canada, we’re here to find out why you should buy this comic! REASONS INCLUDE: fights, teamwork, continental USA domination and a special guest star who you’ll find a TINY bit familiar? Everyone is at least a LITTLE bit into this guy and I cAN’T imagine you not being excited to discover who it is! Anyway, yeah, it’s Ant-Man.
Extra Pulls: Dept.H #7, Batman #9, Amazing Spider-Man #20, Infamous Iron Man #1, I Hate Fairyland #10
