Wednesday approaches, and new comics are almost within our reach. So you may be like me and still have a stack of comics that haven’t been read from last week, but here is a list of new titles I will be picking up at my local comic shop.Like many I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult with the vast amount of quality books being published currently. So here are 5 titles worth looking into this week, and a couple honorary mentions for those that have some extra cash since you haven’t blown your 2016 comic budget yet.
James Tynion IV, Freddies Williams II
The first issue of this dream comic crossover left me wanting more. Ultimately, I hope this second issue has th e Dark Knight actually realizing the Turtles are not a foe and can begin to plan how they are going to confront Shedder. But maybe Shedder isn’t going to be the only villain to appear, perhaps some of Gothams big bads will cause so additional problems.
Jen Van Meter, Roberto de la Torre
Shan Fong-Mirage, Doctor Mirage, is on the hunt for a deadly force that has been release from ancient scroll. No one is safe, whether you are living or dead. Doctor Mirage will need the assistance of her partner, and ghost husband Hwen to tract down this threat. What other century-old atrifacts will play an important part into solving this mystery and putting this spirit back in its place. If you are a lover of everything occult, be sure you are reading this book from Valaint.
Kyle Higgins, Mairghread Scott, Daniel Bayliss, Hendry Prasetya, Goni Montes
I am the right age that when the first iteration of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was airing on television, I was a huge fan. Although I lost connection through the generations and evolution of the franchise, it is nice to see this property being brought back to both comics, and soon to be film. The flashy costumes that grace the various covers for this #0 premier issue are really attractive and appeal to the fan of every character. It’s great to see a fresh take on these classic characters.
Marguerite Bennett, Aneke
Red Sonja is the first in Dynamites reboot of many of its classic characters. Typically I don’t pay much attention to this type of book, but with Marguerite Bennett at the helm it is worth checking out the first couple issues. I will be honest that I have been meaning to catch up on Gail Simone’s run on Red Sonja that began a couple years ago, however since this is a #1, and has Gail Simone’s blessing, this seems like a great jumping on point for this classic title.
Jonathan Hickman, Esad Ribic, Alex Ross
This is the moment Marvel fans have been waiting for. Secret Wars is coming to an end, and though books like Iron Man and Amazing Spider-Man have already released 6 issues, taking place after the final events of this blockbuster, publishing event, it’ll be great to see how Jonathan Hickman concludes what is likely his final Marvel title for some time. Be sure not to miss the fate of Doom and how the now current Marvel Universe comes back together.
Extra pulls: Batman & Robin Eternal #15, Constantine The Hellblazer #8, Illuminati #3, Mighty Thor #3, Ninjak #11
