TOP 5 COMICS – 01/30/19: WYRD, HEX WIVES & MAN-EATERS

Wednesday is here again, which means a new week for new comics (WYRD, HEX WIVES & MAN-EATERS). If you are like me, you may still have a stack of comics that haven’t been read from last week, but how can anyone fault us for reading. Here is a list of books I will be picking up at my local comic shop.

Like many readers I try to budget my purchases, which can become difficult when there are so many quality books being published each week. So here are 5 titles to consider picking up this week.

Wyrd Dark Horse

WYRD #1 – $3.99

Dark Horse Comics – Curt Pires, Antonio Fuso, Stefano Simeone, Micah Myers, Jeff Lemire

There are problems, cases, too strange for US law enforcement to solve. Pitor Wyrd is the one who solves them-for a fee, of course. An unaging, invincible detective with a penchant for the strange, Wyrd is the one the government calls when things go very badly and very strange.
This issue: Crimea. A failed attempt at recreating a certain US supersolider. A monster roaming the countryside. A trail of bodies.

Hex Wives Vertigo

HEX WIVES #4 – $3.99

Vertigo Comics – Ben Blacker, Mirka Andolfo, Marissa Louise, Paulina Ganucheau

After the catastrophic conclusion to last issue, Becky has a personal experience that proves not everything is as it seems in Desert Canyon. However, when she tries to explain what happened to Nadiya and Izzy, both are skeptical. After all, what kind of men keep secrets from their wives?

Power Rangers BOOM!

MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #35 – $3.99

BOOM! Studios – Marguerite Bennett, French Carlomagno, Francesco Mortarino, Eleonora Bruni, Walter Baiamonte, Francesco Segala, Ed Dukeshire, Ryan Ferrier, Bachan, Jeremy Lawson, Jim Campbell, Jamal Campbell

The mysterious new DARK RANGER is the man known as Heckyl – and his origin is revealed for the first time in this stand alone issue.

Peter Cannon Thunderbolt

PETER CANNON THUNDERBOLT #1 – $3.99

Dynamite – Kieron Gillen, Casper Wijngaard, Mary Safro, Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, Paulina Ganucheau

His level of genius is matched only by his heroics, and in humanity’s darkest hour, he’s the hero they need the most-alas, poor humanity. Peter Cannon-the man known as Thunderbolt-is only too happy to leave civilization to face its end. Kieron Gillen (The Wicked + the Divine) teams up with powerhouse artist Caspar Wijngaard (Doctor Aphra) as he returns to the superhero genre with a dark, humorous and relentless love song to the genre.
Well, “Love Song” in a Leonard Cohen Love Song kind of way. Peter Cannon, Thunderbolt: saving a world he hates.

Man-Eaters

MAN-EATERS #5 – $3.99

Image Comics – Chelsea Cain, Kate Niemczyk, Rachel Rosenberg, Joe Caramagna, Liz Miternique

WHO WILL STAND
“RAGTIME GOSPEL”
Twelve-year-old girls fight the patriarchy.
Because someone has to.
