Ant-Man and The Wasp is Hilarious & Charming (Review)

Ant-Man and The Wasp is Hilarious & Charming (Review)

Another superhero movie – good heavens Marvel is pumping them out this year.  Ant-Man and the Wasp is the third one, from Marvel at least. Between those, Deadpool, the Incredibles and the upcoming Venom movie, it looks like the superhero genre is still going strong.  No matter how sick I am of Superhero movies, I’d still rather see that than The First Purge, so here we all are. But good news – it turns out the genre still holds. If you can avoid having 20 superheros in the same movie, you can make a pretty entertaining piece of film.  Ant-Man and the Wasp was so charming and funny and friendly, I couldn’t resist it. Ant-Man & The Wasp Stings with Fun and Humor Thanks to Evangeline Lilly (Review)

Ant-Man & The Wasp Stings with Fun and Humor Thanks to Evangeline Lilly (Review)

The fact that a superhero movie about a man given a suit that makes him the size of an ant and allows him to control ants made its way to the cineplex three years ago still amazes me. The finished product of Ant-Man was surprising, as it gave us a likeable superhero in Scott Lang (played greatly by Paul Rudd) and something a little different (in a good way) for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Fast forward three years and now we have its sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, which is one of the best sequels to follow an MCU superhero’s first solo outing. On par with its predecessor, Ant-Man and the Wasp is another good entry in the MCU, thanks to its small-scale stakes (ha), action, humor, and most importantly Evangeline Lilly, who ultimately takes the reigns of the movie as the Wasp.

Movies based off popular video games definitely have a rough history in Hollywood. Between awful films like Assassins Creed and Warcraft to the mediocre Resident Evil franchise, it is very difficult to actually get excited when a movie based off a video game is announced. Tomb Raider had one of the best trailers of 2018, hands down. It’s easy to get chills every time that “Survivor” remix cued up in the trailer, and adding to that, it is cut together so well. Is the movie as good as the trailer? No. But is it an enjoyable and fun movie? Yes, yes it is. Tomb Raider is very flawed and has a few plot-holes, but there’s plenty to like about the film as well.
