Spider-Man Homecoming: The Best Spidey Yet, But I’m Confused… How Did He Get His Powers?! (Review)

This week – another Superhero movie, which means the Superhero Franchise Genre-Killer that I predicted has not yet come to pass.  They’re still pumping them out, so I guess I’ll still see them.  But I was confused by Spiderman: Homecoming.  Where did Spiderman get his powers?  What’s up with Aunt May – is she married?  Where are Peter Parker’s parents?  What we really need is a movie that explains all this.  Maybe we should find out where Spiderman came from before we get into his hi-jinks with the Avengers. Spider-Man: Homecoming – Welcome to The Avengers Tom Holland (Review)

Spiderman is one of the most beloved comic book characters Marvel has ever produced.  The film franchise has been rebooted twice now.  Spiderman 2 has been heralded by some as the greatest super hero movie of all time.  After the lackluster performance of the Andrew Garfield reboot, many were hesitant about a third reboot of the friendly neighborhood Spiderman.  This time, however, Spiderman has been inducted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Fans of the Avengers can welcome Spidey into the force with open arms. The Lost City of Z: Charlie Hunnam Perseveres in This Beautiful Period Piece (Review)

The Lost City of Z: Charlie Hunnam Perseveres in This Beautiful Period Piece (Review)

Making a period piece in this day and age is very challenging, and in most cases they’re hit or miss. They can either be way too long, have a load of pacing issues, or poorly directed and acted. The Lost City of Z is the opposite of all those things. From the directing to the fantastic screenplay, The Lost City of Z fires on all cylinders. For it being a true story as well, it gets most of the facts straight and tells a story of explorer Percy Fawcett that most people haven’t even heard of. Everyone should know his story. Read more

Captain America: Civil War – Lengthy & Incoherent but Certainly Very Awesome [Review]

Captain America: Civil War – Lengthy & Incoherent but Certainly Very Awesome [Review]

Before you see how I rated this film, I just want to say a few things.  Captain America:  Civil War was unbelievably well made.  It was beautiful to look at, well acted, funny and likeable.  It really did feel epic.  And I did like it – all 147 minutes of it.  I cannot stress this enough: I did not hate this film.  But, like its DC counterpart, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, this is a film that absolutely should have been two or three movies instead of one.   The significant difference between Dawn of Justice and Civil War is that Civil War was masterfully done.
