A Quick Look At Some of The Most Memorable Movie Memorabilia

The role that film plays in society and the impact it has had on wider popular culture over the last century or so is almost possible to overstate. A rather telling example of this comes in the form of a study done by VisitBritain, which estimates that in 2001, approximately 20% of the 23 million visitors to the UK did so simply because of the way the country has been portrayed on television and film. If this isn’t enough to convince you of the indelible impact that the film industry has on our lives then you need to look no further than the rise in collection of movie memorabilia over the last 25 years or so. Marvel Studios is Doing Human CGI Better Than Anyone Else & Here’s Why: Lola VFX

Marvel Studios is Doing Human CGI Better Than Anyone Else & Here’s Why: Lola VFX

As wonderful as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is, I still can’t wrap my head around the CGI characters of Grand Moff Tarkin and a young princess Leia… They just don’t look real to me and I think it’s because the eyes are too damn shiny, which gives the face this glossy mannequin look. Marvel on the other hand just delivered a de-aged Kurt Russell in Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and I could not tell that he was CGI. Not one damn bit. Why is Marvel making better CGI faces than anyone else? Turns out it isn’t the technology, but rather it comes down to plain ol’ hard work and artistry from Lola VFX. Read more

Sean’s Most Anticipated Movies of 2017: Logan, Beauty and the Beast & Star Wars

Sean’s Most Anticipated Movies of 2017: Logan, Beauty and the Beast & Star Wars

Let’s be honest – 2016 was the most underwhelming year at the movies in recent memory. While there was a fair of number great and entertaining movies, the wait between seeing memorable ones felt longer than usual. And while, as the trades have reported, it was another record-breaking year at the box office, inflation diminished the return of some of the biggest movies of 2016.

Thankfully, 2016 is out of the way and 2017 has arrived and studios are doubling down on tentpole movies. It’s exciting to consider what 2017 has to offer, as many movies scheduled for release throughout the year look very promising. As such, it was difficult to pick five movies I’m most looking forward to in 2017.

Keven’s Favorite Things from 2016 Including Animosity & Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

2016 has come to a close (well…. Shortly it will be anyway) so I’m here to rattle off what I loved the most about this past year — a year that was riddled with celebrity death, political turmoil and whatever else people felt like complaining about (real or not). So let’s cut to the good stuff, the best of film, comics, music and television. Shall we? Read more

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – Make No Mistake This is a War Movie [Review]

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – Make No Mistake This is a War Movie [Review]

My goodness, director Gareth Edwards had some pretty big shoes to fill – Rogue One had to bridge the fairly sizable gap between Episode III and IV, it had to tell a great story about how the plans for the Death Star were acquired, it had to fit thematically and visually with all the other films and yet still feel fresh.  Other films have tried that and failed – in this very franchise.  Anyway, that’s a tall order.  Luckily, in my mind, Rogue One succeeds on all counts. Rogue One: First Star Wars Spin-Off is Exciting and Somewhat Meaningful [Review]

Rogue One: First Star Wars Spin-Off is Exciting and Somewhat Meaningful [Review]

As evidenced by last year’s release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the galaxy, “far, far away,”  reigns supreme over pop culture once again. But the next release in the Star Wars universe proves to be a rather different, and somewhat challenging, sell for audiences: a spin-off set between episodes three and four of the intergalactic saga. Without the Skywalker family or lightsabers (mostly) as the main focus, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a view of the inner workings of both sides of the all-out war between the Rebellion and the Empire. Rogue One could have easily been just a “cash grab” simply by inserting the words “Star Wars” to its title, but luckily, for the most part, it isn’t. Despite some issues, Rogue One is a fine expedition filled with new characters on both sides of the conflict that feel somewhat meaningful to the Star Wars universe.
