I think I might be done with Star Trek. The reboot universe just isn’t doing it for me, despite the beautiful homoerotic undertones of new Kirk’s relationship with new Spock. If you’re a fan of the series, particularly the new series, you might want read some other review. Even Rotten Tomatoes liked this film more than I did. Star Trek Beyond is a hyperactive mess, it tries so hard and comes so close and then steadfastly fails to deliver. There were many many good elements, small things done well, even big things done well, but none of it came together as a whole. [Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo 2016] During Karl Urban’s panel at this past weekend’s annual CCEE16, the Star Trek Beyond actor teased the upcoming new film and potential death(s) for major characters as well as his excitement for new Dredd and much more.
CBS has announced today that it is developing a brand new Star Trek television series which will air in January 2017 from executive producer Alex Kurtzman.
Star Trek Beyond, the third film in the new franchise, is directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious franchise) and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho and Idris Elba as the new villain. The film hits theatres July 8, 2016 (2 months before the franchise’ 50th anniversary).
