Blade Runner 2049 is a Sequel So Good it Makes The Original Better (Review)

Blade Runner 2049 is a Sequel So Good it Makes The Original Better (Review)

This was in my top 5 most anticipated movies of 2017.   I could not wait to see it.  I discovered the original Blade Runner in my teens and loved it with that special love that hipsters have for their underappreciated favorites.  There was a lot riding on this sequel.  The trailers looked mouthwatering and I was all in for the crazy hype.  It isn’t easy to write a sequel, particularly for an older film whose fans loved it as much as I did.  Would Denis Villeneuve deliver like he did on Sicario and Arrival?  Or would this be another over-hyped cash grab? Blade Runner 2049 is an Instant Sci-Fi Classic (Review)

Blade Runner 2049 is an Instant Sci-Fi Classic (Review)

When I walked into the theater to see Blade Runner 2049 on Monday, I had no idea what to expect. What was the movie actually about? Why is there a sequel to a movie that bombed at the box office and was later deemed a misinterpreted cult classic? As somebody who finds the original 1982 Blade Runner to be highly overrated, I write this review surprised by two things: first, that a sequel to a movie, viewed by many as a misinterpreted, neo-noir sci-fi classic, would be made 35 years later; secondly, (and more surprisingly) that this sequel, Blade Runner 2049, is not only leaps and bounds better than the original, but is also one of the best movies I’ve seen in recent years. Thanks to the movie’s mysterious story, memorable characters, gorgeous visuals, and unparalleled direction from Denis Villeneuve, Blade Runner 2049 is an instant sci-fi classic and one which will be talked about for years to come. Denis Villeneuve Directing the Next James Bond Movie? Daniel Craig Wants Him

The thought of this literally gives me chills, but how likely is it to happen? Read more

Arrival: A Carefully Made Film, Intelligent in Every Detail & Amazing to Watch [Review]

Arrival: A Carefully Made Film, Intelligent in Every Detail & Amazing to Watch [Review]

I wasn’t that crazy about seeing Arrival.  There hadn’t been much hype, I wasn’t already aware of it and the trailer made it look like it was borrowing a plotline from the first season of Enterprise where the Federation hadn’t developed the Universal Translator yet, so they weren’t sure if the aliens were going to kill the Enterprise or not.  And to be fair that’s a large part of it – how much of Earth’s stress in this movie would have been reduced by the invention of a Universal Translator?  I’m not going to tell you; after seeing Arrival through, I can say that it’s not the point of the film.   Read more
