As wonderful as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is, I still can’t wrap my head around the CGI characters of Grand Moff Tarkin and a young princess Leia… They just don’t look real to me and I think it’s because the eyes are too damn shiny, which gives the face this glossy mannequin look. Marvel on the other hand just delivered a de-aged Kurt Russell in Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and I could not tell that he was CGI. Not one damn bit. Sean’s Top 10 Movies of 2016: La La Land, Don’t Think Twice & A Monster Calls

2016 featured more than a few good movies. But as far as big-budget spectacles go, very few really stood out, as the majority of the studio tent poles were largely disappointing. Luckily, however, smaller, more independent movies stepped up big time this year. For me, the majority of the best movies I saw in 2016 were more affecting than they were movies that left me in awe or that had a “wow” factor.

While there was one movie that stood out above the rest for my Number 1 spot, spots 2-10 required me to thoroughly scrutinize my list in order to place the rest of the movies I saw this year in the right spots. Captain America:  Civil War – Lengthy & Incoherent but Certainly Very Awesome [Review]

Before you see how I rated this film, I just want to say a few things.  Captain America:  Civil War was unbelievably well made.  It was beautiful to look at, well acted, funny and likeable.  It really did feel epic.  And I did like it – all 147 minutes of it.  I cannot stress this enough: I did not hate this film.  But, like its DC counterpart, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, this is a film that absolutely should have been two or three movies instead of one.   The significant difference between Dawn of Justice and Civil War is that Civil War was masterfully done.
