The Equalizer 2 Surpasses The Original With Stylistic Action & Character Depth (Review)

Action sequels are often disappointing, lazy, and unnecessary. There are exceptions to this, though. For example, John Wick Chapter 2 was incredible, maybe ever better than the original. But then you have a movie like Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle that was pretty disappointing compared to the original. It is always a risk when it comes to sequels in general. The Equalizer hit theaters back in 2014 and it was decent, not great. It didn’t break any ground but it was definitely watchable. When a sequel got announced, it was difficult to be SUPER excited about it. Well this is a case of the sequel being better than the original. The Equalizer 2 is a very entertaining sequel that sheds some light on the mystery of Denzel Washington’s character Robert McCall. Read more

Moonlight: The Dark Horse that Could Upset La La Land at this Sunday’s Oscars

The Oscars are this Sunday and it’s no secret that La La Land is the clear front-runner right now to take home the big prize (Best Picture). Dominating entertainment and social media buzz since its release, La La Land has a chance to win as many as 14 Oscars, which would break the record for a single movie. (Titanic, Ben-Hur, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King each won 11 Oscars). Besides La La Land, eight other movies are nominated for Best Picture at this year’s Oscars. And while I consider them all dark horses at this point, Moonlight stands the best chance at pulling an upset. La La Land was the best movie I saw in 2016; but in my opinion Moonlight was the most important movie released in 2016.  After viewing it for a second time over the holiday weekend I can see why Oscar voters could lean towards this heartbreaking, three-part story.
