Tomb Raider Missed Out on The Things That Made Lara Croft Great (Review)

Tomb Raider Missed Out on The Things That Made Lara Croft Great (Review)

It might not be fair, but I’m going to be comparing this Tomb Raider to the Laura Croft Tomb Raider in 2001 for the whole review.  Because if you’re going to reboot something, you really should make it better. And I’ll spoil the surprise right here: this Tomb Raider wasn’t better at all.  You may well be sitting there thinking ‘duh- I saw the trailer’, and you’d be right. But I was rooting for it, I went in wanting to see a good film. Then Alicia Vikander came on and thanked us for watching her movie and my brain automatically tacked on the words “… even though it sucks”.  Like I’ve said before, the thanks you get for watching a movie should be a great movie. You shouldn’t need to be grateful for people filling your seats, you should be confident. Star Wars is. Read more

Tomb Raider is A Step in the Right Direction for Video Game Movies (Review)

Tomb Raider is A Step in the Right Direction for Video Game Movies (Review)

Movies based off popular video games definitely have a rough history in Hollywood. Jason Bourne: Exciting, Beautiful, Relentless, Exhausting [Review]

I confess, this was my first Jason Bourne movie with Matt Damon.  Sure I saw that one with Jeremy Renner but that doesn’t really count.  And even though this was my first real taste of the franchise, it felt tired.  You can tell that’s exactly what the film’s producers  were worried about when they made this film because the action never ever stops. It needs you to be excited THE ENTIRE TIME.  The music was relentless, we were forever in that handheld camera view and they were always in a chase scene.  Jason Bourne was exhausting and still stimulating, like when you get no sleep and try to compensate by drinking WAY too much caffeine. Jason Bourne: A Welcome Return for Cinema’s Best Modern Action Hero [Review]

Jason Bourne: A Welcome Return for Cinema’s Best Modern Action Hero [Review]

Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are back to give us another chapter in the Bourne franchise, which seemingly has gotten better with each passing movie (minus the dreadful spinoff The Bourne Legacy). Nine years have passed since we last saw Jason Bourne, but he’s back thanks to a clever story that brings him from out of the shadows. Simply titled Jason Bourne, the latest entry in the Bourne saga is another excellent, globetrotting, cat-and-mouse game full of brutish action with some bureaucratic deception sprinkled on top.
