Check out my weekly Spotify album of the week right here (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – This Unruly Mess I’ve Made) with a direct link so your lazy asses can click right off them phones and start playing it right then and there. It’s the future!
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are back with the most difficult task imagineable – following up one of my favorite hip hop albums ever made – ‘The Heist’. We’ve all been listening to ‘Downtown’ for what feels like a year so — is the rest of ‘This Unruly Mess I’ve Made’ worth our time? I think so. ‘Growing Up’, which features a beautiful chorus by Ed Sheeran might be my favorite track on the record. Written while Macklemore when he was an expecting father, it’s a heartfelt and genuinely moving song which definitely stands apart from the rest of the record.
I’m particularly fond of ‘Dance Off’ as well, which features Idris Elba, yes that Idris Elba – did you know he was a musician too? That man can do whatever the hell he wants. Overall the album isn’t as memorable as ‘The Heist’ but it’s a worthy successor and one that I’ve found myself going back to non-stop in the week following it’s release. If you liked Macklemore & Ryan Lewis before, you’ll like them now. I don’t know if they’re going for more fans but that’s fine with me.
