Outcast is a demonic possession horror comic series from writer Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead) and artist Paul Azaceta. The Image Comics release has just dropped issue #10 so check out my review right here.
Kyle Barnes has been plagued by demonic possession all his life and now he needs answers. Unfortunately, what he uncovers along the way could bring about the end of life on Earth as we know it. It begins here – with this terrifying new horror series from THE WALKING DEAD creator Robert Kirkman and artist Paul Azaceta.
After readers slowly started to get more information on how this world works, Kyle is left distraught after an exorcism goes horribly wrong and conjures up demons from his past (no pun intended). I assumed the girl was dead but she’s in a catatonic state, much like Kyle’s mother has been for the past few decades or so.
While Kyle lashes out at the reverend, we see the man in black visit yet another member of the church who is also in on this secret plot which I’m assuming has to do with demons living on earth or people willing to serve Satan in some sort of capacity. Everybody is in on something but we don’t know what the hell that is (no pun intended part two). It does however look like the reverend is in for an ass kicking and that nifty pentagram carved into his chest wasn’t enough of a warning.
The finest moment of this issue is when Kyle converses with his ex wife, who still of course thinks he’s the one that tried to choke their daughter to death after beating the shit out of her. Kyle shows an incredible amount of restraint here because he still carries the blame even though he’s 100% clearly aware that his wife was possessed at the time and that it was in fact her trying to kill their daughter and the wounds she suffered were from Kyle trying to save their child.
It’s heart-breaking stuff here as Kirkman really turns on the emotions to a boiling point and this is probably the saddest moment of the series thus far. For a transitional or set-up issue before the action kicks in, Outcast #10 was really well executed and this series continues to impress and hook me in emotionally.
